An Exciting yet Free DBA Tool!!

Well after having a look on various DBA tools I have decided to dedicate today to another exciting yet FREE Oracle tool - Oracletool

Oracletool an interactive, web based application is written and maintained by Adam vonNieda. One notable thing about Oracletool that made me have a look on it is that a couple of O'Reilly books have written about it such as Perl for Oracle DBAs and Oracle and Open Source Oracletool has been around since long time and not only supports Oracle v7 & v8 but also has been upgraded to support some of the current features of 9i and 10g. Oracletool enjoys regular releases and maintains independence from any web server-specific modules.

Oracletool is an excellent tuning, monitoring, and general database administration tool for Oracle databases. It provides a simple web based interface to help DBA perform day to day maintenance tasks. You can use it for performance tuning and to perform a variety of database administration functions.

You can view the Oracle data dictionary and session information. There are nice real-time session monitoring mechanism for current sessions, viewing the SQL being executed, wait information, and similar session information.

You can browse schemas, view structures, look at procedural code and generate the DDL used behind the scene to create the objects. You can also do this for all the database structures such as tablespaces, redo, rollback, and control files. There is also an area to run an explain plan or execute your own SQL

Oracletool is FREE and can be distributed under the terms of either the GNU General Public License or the Artistic License. There is also an online demo that you could try before downloading the tool.

If you are looking for a tool that allows you to keep your database in good working order and does not cost you then Oracletool could be right choice for you. It is a simple tool that requires you to use it for a while and you will get hands on what you like to see.
